Through this work I would like to celebrate the figure of Lilit(h) as a symbol of rebellion against societal norms placed on people assigned female at birth. Inspired by ancient myths surrounding Lilit as well as old Mesopotamian incantation bowls, I make my own incantation bowls that are meant to free the Lilit and celebrate what they stand for today. Each piece is engraved with images. These images are brought to life by spinning the ceramic bowls and making use of the stroboscopic effect, which reveals an analogue animation visible to the naked eye. Using fears and motifs commonly associated with Lilit, this work places these themes into a contemporary context, challenging traditional expectations and offering different perspectives on the struggles AFAB people are still facing today.
