I was able to participate in the exhibition “REFLEXIONEN” in Nötsch im Gailtal, focusing on the destroyed frescos of the painter Anton Kolig. I picked a fresco called “die Mägdekammer” depicting three naked women in a private room, the only people watching being the viewers of the fresco. I couldn’t help but notice the difference in how men and women were depicted in Anton Kolig’s frescos: while the men always enjoyed a more profound role, women were only shown naked and as entertainment.

I projected a digital frame by frame animation onto the life-size print to highlight the sexualizing and objectifying properties of this particular work, and other details one might overlook in the black and white version, like the cross on the wall.
